Teaching activities are conducted according to the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. Teaching activities include; lectures, Small Group Discussions (SGD), Practical sessions and Problem Based Learning (PBL). Student-centred learning is encouraged by the department.
Foundation to Pharmacology will be the initial contact of the students with the Department of Pharmacology where basics of Pharmacology like Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and process of developing new drugs will be discussed. In addition, during each system based module, relevant areas of pharmacology will be taught. E.g. –Cardiovascular, Respiratory etc.
There will be a separate assessment for the foundation to Pharmacology module, which will be in the form of MCQs and SEQs. In addition, in other system module examinations, relevant pharmacology knowledge will be assessed.
We try to collaborate with the extended faculty members so that the theoretical knowledge that they gain in Pharmacology could be applied to their clinical training.
