Department of Pathology

The pathology department started in 2020 and took many strides to establish itself as a full-fledged department. The 2017/2018 intake was received as the first batch of students. Our academic staff are at the center of undergraduate pathology training spanning four semesters. The pathology course of the MBBS degree programme at Wayamba University covers the basic pathological principles and genetics in the foundation of pathology module and the applied pathology in body system based modules. These modules ensure that relevant pathological, clinical and research practices are taught to the next generation of clinicians.

Vision “Delivering good quality pathology teaching aimed at enabling quality healthcare through diagnostic and academic  activities.”

Mission ” teach the medical student the basic concepts of the disease process and facilitate efficient learning of clinical subjects in the final year.”

 

To teach pathology to future doctors using interactive and innovative methods Provide the students with the opportunity to be familiar with macroscopic and microscopic changes in the body tissue associated with disease processes of the human body.
To provide a wide range of diagnostic services including histopathology, aspiration cytology, pap smear, exfoliative cytology and haematological investigations for anaemias and coagulopathies.

The department is very friendly and sociable with a popular central recreational area.
