A Landmark Achievement: Faculty of Medicine Provides Essential First Aid Services at the Annual Duruthu Maha Perahera
The Faculty of Medicine at the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka reached a significant milestone in its community engagement on January 30, 2026. For the first time in the faculty’s history, a dedicated team of medical students and staff took the lead in providing comprehensive First Aid coverage for the prestigious Kuliyapitiya Assedduma Sri Buddha Sasanalankara Mula Maha Viharaya Annual Duruthu Maha Perahera Festival.
This initiative served as a vital community service, ensuring the health and safety of the thousands of devotees, performers, and visitors who gathered for this grand cultural and religious event. Being part of such a storied tradition in the heart of Kuliyapitiya was both an honor and a significant responsibility for our team.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the venerable Maha Sangha of the Sri Buddha Sasanalankara Mula Maha Viharaya and the Perahera Organizing Committee for granting us the invitation to serve. We also recognize the tireless dedication of our students and the continuous guidance of the faculty administration and staff, whose support made this historic achievement possible.
This mission marks a proud moment in our faculty’s journey, blending professional clinical practice with a deep commitment to social responsibility and brotherhood.
