The Department of Anatomy at Wayamba University successfully completed a research work and a health camp in a Dambana Adivasi (Vedda) Gammanaya Mahiyanganaya area from September 28th to 30th, 2024. This initiative focused on the Morphological and Morphometrical Analysis of Indigenous (Vedda) People of Sri Lanka residing in the Dambana area.

During the three-day event, our team engaged with participants to collect vital sociodemographic information, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the community. Team collected craniofacial morphological and morphometrical data such as cephalic, facial, nasal, and ear etc and other body and limb morphometries too. Additionally, blood grouping was performed to enhance the research data.

Simultaneously, a health camp was held to address the health needs of the community. Our medical team provided treatment for common illnesses, distributed essential medications, and conducted screenings for non-communicable diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension.

The success of this program was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Dean of the faculty, both academic and non-academic staff from the Department of Anatomy. We are grateful for their hard work and commitment to serving the community and advancing our research goals.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the indigenous communities and contributing to their health and well-being.
