Based on a concept by the Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sanjeewa Bowatte the inaugural Inter Batch Sports Tournament of the Faculty of Medicine, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka was held on the 8th of December 2021. Organised by the Sports Committee of the Students’ Union this marked the inception of the sports complex affiliated with the Faculty.
Panning a beautiful evening the Badminton tournament also marked the first event which brought undergraduates of all three batches together in a major sporting event. This tournament provided the perfect opportunity for the student body to utilise the premises by taking part and extending the undying support to their compatriots.
Held in league format the tournament mustered the collective effort of the rising sportsmen and women to pit an epic final between the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 Batches in both Male and Female categories, while the 2019/2020 Batch placed 2nd Runners Up. 2017/2018 Batch won the Women’s category and at the end of a hard-fought battle, the 2018/2019 Batch emerged victorious in the Men’s category! At the end of the event, trophies were awarded to the winning teams by Dr. Nayomi Ranathunga.
With the collective promise of extending the Inter Batch Sports Tournament as a future tradition, the event concluded on a high leaving memories to cherish for years to come.
