Dr. (Mrs) Thusitha Somarathna assumed duties as the first academic in the Department of Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine on 7th October 2020. She has obtained her MBBS degree with honours from the Faculty of Medicine University of Kelaniya in 2004. She obtained her post graduate qualifications, Diploma in Pathology and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Histopathology from Post Graduate Institute of Medicine of University of Colombo in 2013.
After specializing, she has worked as a consultant in several renowned hospitals around Sri Lanka. She is a Consultant Histopathologist with special interest in gastro-intestinal pathology. She has published several research articles in peer-reviewed journals and written book chapters in the field of gastrointestinal pathology and presented her findings in local and international conferences. The faculty staff wish Dr Thusitha Somarathna, every success in her new career and future endeavours.
