With the objective of ensuring high quality medical education, the Quality Assurance Cell, of the Faculty of Medicine (FQAC FOM), was established in 2019 under the directive of the Internal Quality Assurance cell of Wayamba University, Sri Lanka. The FQAC FOM aims to formalize and streamline the Quality Assurance process at both Faculty and University level. It liaises with the Director, Internal Quality Assurance Unit of the Wayamba University, to coordinate university level Quality Assurance activities.

FQAC FOM represents all stakeholders within the faculty, including academic staff, undergraduate and post graduate students, administrative staff, and non-academic staff. It works together with other related committees and units within the faculty such as Teaching and Learning Committee, Curriculum, Academic Development & Monitoring Committee, Ethic Review Committee, and the Department of Medical Education regarding all Quality Assurance related activities.

Acting as an advisory body, to the faculty board the FQAC makes recommendations to the higher authorities such as the Dean, Curriculum, Academic Development & Monitoring Committee and Examinations Division issues regarding the quality. FQAC FOM regularly monitors Quality Assurance related activities within the faculty and promotes best practices among students, academic, administrative as well as non-academic staff to enhance the quality of the MBBS programme.
