The Faculty of Medicine, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka is established as the 9th Medical Faculty in Sri Lanka to offer an excellent educational environment for learning, teaching and research in the fields of medicine. The flexible module based curriculum is designed to facilitate students to excel according to their individual learning styles by providing a platform for learner and student centric experience. I am privileged and honoured to be part of the Faculty of Medicine at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, as the successor to Professor M.D Lamawansa who laid an unbreakable foundation as the first acting Dean of this newly established faculty. The medical faculty of Wayamba University was declared open by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Kuliyapitiya. Ministers Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Rauff Hakeem, and Rajitha Senaratne participated in the event.
A tree planting campaign was held at Labuyaya premises, Faculty of Medicine Wayamba University of Sri Lanka on 17th of September 2020. The Vice Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Deans of the other faculties, the Registrar of the University, staff, and the students of the Faculty of Medicine enthusiastically participated in this event. More than sixty varieties of native medicinal species were planted at this ceremony.
